Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

From what you have mentioned, it looks like may be you are having the stomach bug. Looks like it started very mildly few days back and now it must have worsened as you are having the chills and the shaking.

Majority of stomach bugs infections are self-limiting, they should settle down by about a week. As you are already having the symptoms since a week (though mild), you could try conservative management for next 2-3 days and see. If symptoms still persist after 2-3 days kindly see your doctor. Your doctor would then assess you and ask for stool sample to send for culture and sensitivity; this will tell your doctor the exact micro-organisms causing the infection, and the antibiotics that could be prescribed for you if any.

So, for next 2-3 days, you could follow the following plan. For next 12 hours-18 hours, do not eat any solid food. Just take clear liquids – take small sips frequently. If you take a whole glass of fluid at once, it will cause your bowel to go into cramps and you will have diarrhoea again. So small sips of fluid very frequently is the tip. I would also advise you to take oral rehydration salts – it comes as powder, you need to mix in water and drink –again take small sips. You could also take tender coconut water.

Once you feel your diarrhoea is slowly settling, you could take bland semi solid food – like bland soup, porridge etc. If you are managing to keep this in, then go to bland solids like a sandwich etc. Avoid hot, spicy food like curries, gravies, avoid junk food, cheese etc. until your diarrhoea does not completely stop.

You could also take Buscopan for your stomach cramps. You could take 20 mg 2-3 times/day. If you have any burning sensation in your stomach or feel bloated etc, you could take a acid suppresant drug like Lansoprazole 30 mg once a day int eh morning for the next few days.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
